The 10 Best Women’s Face Razors That Won’t Cause Nicks or Cuts

If you want to get rid of excess facial hair—or are just looking to remove peach fuzz for a smoother makeup application—then it’s time to invest in one of the best face razors for women.

Evelyn Ramirez, Founder and Lead Esthetician at Evelyn Aesthetics in NYC, says interest in women shaving their faces has spiked. “Social media and beauty influencers have demystified the process, showing it as a part of their skincare routine,” she says. It doesn’t hurt that there are multiple benefits other than hair removal: “Exfoliation and smoother makeup application have also been highlighted,” she notes.

Additionally, broader acceptance and discussion around female grooming have reduced the stigma associated with it. This technique is better known as dermaplaning, which is a method that doesn’t alter the natural hair growth pattern, preventing women from growing facial hair like men.

If you’re in the market for a new face razor, skip ahead to find the ones our editors have tested, reviewed, and loved:

Why do women need different razors for their faces than men?

Yes, women should use different razors than men. “Women’s facial skin is generally more delicate, and facial hair is finer compared to men’s,” says Ramirez. “Razors designed for women often have features that cater to these differences, such as single blades that are gentler on the skin and handles designed for better control on facial contours.” In other words, you’ll have a gentler shave, and less chance of cutting yourself. Win win!

How do you shave your face?

It may be tempting to just use the razor, but proper preparation and technique are necessary for sanitary and safety reasons.

  1. Cleanse: “Start with a clean, dry face. It’s beneficial to cleanse the skin thoroughly to remove any oils and dirt,” says Ramirez.
  2. Exfoliate: “Using a gentle exfoliator can also help remove dead skin cells, preventing clogged pores.
  3. Shave: Hold skin taught with your non-dominant hand, and hold the razor at a 45-degree angle. Use short strokes—rather than dragging the razor—to gently remove hair.
  4. Soothe: Just as important as the prep is the after-care. “Applying a hydrating toner followed by a gentle moisturizer helps to calm any irritation and lock in moisture,” says the aesthetician.

Finally, Ramirez recommends avoiding products with alcohol or strong fragrances immediately after shaving, as they can cause irritation. “Additionally, combining dermaplaning with sessions of laser hair removal can enhance long-term effectiveness and reduce hair growth over time,” she says.
