Here’s What to Know About the 2024 MTV VMAs

The most outrageous award show of the year will return to our screens very soon.

The 2024 MTV Video Music Awards are certain to be star-studded, especially with a nominee list that includes everyone from industry powerhouses like Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and Megan Thee Stallion to rising newcomers like Chappell Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Gracie Abrams.

Ahead, we break down everything to know about this year’s VMAs.

When are the 2024 VMAs?

This year, the VMAs take place on Wednesday, September 11. The ceremony will start at 8:00 p.m. ET, though the red carpet will likely begin hours earlier.

Originally scheduled for September 10, the VMAs are now happening a day later, so as not to interfere with the first debate between presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

Where are the VMAs?

The stars will head to UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, to attend the award show.

How do you watch the 2024 VMAs?

You can watch the show live on September 11 by tuning in to MTV. If you don’t have cable, you should be able to catch up with the ceremony by subscribing to (or signing up for a free trial with) a streaming platform like Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, Sling TV, or Fubo.

Taylor Swift dominated this year’s nominations list, racking up a total of 10 nominations in categories like Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop. Her nomination for the night’s most coveted award, Video of the Year, sets the stage for Swift to make VMAs history, potentially, as the first artist to win in that category three years in a row and five times over all.

Post Malone closely follows Swift, with nine nominations, followed by Ariana GrandeSabrina Carpenter, and Eminem, who each tie for third with six nominations. Other major nominees include Beyoncé, Megan Thee Stallion, SZA, Olivia Rodrigo, and Blackpink’s Lisa.

But the night will also shine a spotlight on up-and-coming musicians. This year’s first-time VMAs nominees include Chappell RoanTyla, Coco Jones, and Gracie Abrams.

Who is performing at the 2024 VMAs?

Some of today’s biggest artists are set to take the stage at this year’s ceremony. The first slate of confirmed performers includes Roan, Carpenter, Camila Cabello, GloRilla, and Rauw Alejandro. In particular, these VMAs will mark Roan’s first-ever live performance at an award ceremony.
