Now that method dressing has become the standard for the red carpet, it seems we can expect every actor to sartorially embrace the themes of their upcoming films. A seasoned pro, Jenna Ortega has already embodied past characters through her clothing—most notably Wednesday Addams—and it seems she’s keeping her steak going on the press tour for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.

For a fan event in Mexico City, Ortega slipped into a custom gown made in collaboration between her stylist, Enrique Melendez, and Saudi Arabian label Lurline. The dark green ensemble boasted a sculptural strapless neckline, as well as lace-up details. An intricate molding technique even brought one of the film’s scenes to life, taking inspiration from its zombie character, Bob—who seemed to appear on the dress itself in the form of a shrunken head.

The creature sat at the center of Ortega’s corset before flowing off into vein-like embossing, and below, the skirt of her dress featured large diagonal sutures. Sarah and Siham Albinali, the sister duo behind Lurline, told WWD that they “added leather cords to accentuate the sewn up mouth” of the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice zombie.

Ortega, with the help of Melendez, finished off her soft goth look with matching teal heels. She brought the vampy vibes to her glam as well, sporting a dark red lipstick and black eyeliner. As for her hair, she wore her long black tresses in a straightened style with fluffy bangs.
Earlier this week, the actor attended a photo call in a gothic gown from Vivienne Westwood’s Spring/Summer 2009 collection. With whimsical lace details laid atop a mesh base, the dress perfectly captured the ghoulish theme of the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice movie.

In the highly anticipated Beetlejuice sequel, Ortega stars among cast members from the original 1988 film, including Winona Ryder and Catherine O’Hara. She plays Astrid, the teenage daughter of Ryder’s Lydia Deetz.
“Everyone wanted to be Lydia after watching the first film,” Ortega said in an interview for Harper’s Bazaar’s August 2024 cover story on Ryder. “She’s so self-assured and smart and ahead of her time.”
Ortega added that her older co-star “definitely helped me feel less alone.” She continued, “It’s a very isolating experience and a scary one. Being able to speak to somebody who had witnessed that firsthand, maybe even more, was a great source of comfort for me, and I can’t thank her enough for that.”
