Katie Holmes has embraced boho vibes all summer long, and come August, she seems to have mastered her go-to outfit formula.
While the actor walked around New York City on Friday, she leaned into the late summer vibes with an oversized leopard print shirt from Nanushka. The boxy $525 button-up featured a tan base decorated with a smattering of black and brown spots, which Holmes accentuated with a black tank top peeking out of the top of the shirt.

Leaving a few of the blouse’s bottom buttons undone, she offered a better look at her casual pants. The thick gray sweatpants, complete with a white drawstring and raw hem, brought a more laid back feel to her ensemble. The Dawson’s Creek alum quickly balanced out her outfit, however, with a chic pair of black leather ballet flats that dipped into a “V” shape.
As for accessories, Holmes stuck to her tried-and-true pieces, including a pair of brown rectangular sunglasses and a stack of beaded mother-of-pearl necklaces. She slung a large leather purse across her right shoulder, which complemented both her shades and her wavy hair with its dark brown color. And with her phone in-hand and a black hair tie around her wrist, the actor looked ready to run some serious errands.

This summer, it’s become clear that Holmes has figured out her preferred styling system. Her latest outfits have dressed up sweats (or loose-fitting pants) with free-flowing button-up shirts, a large tote, and sandals. All of them have also been accompanied by her effortless approach to beauty, which does away with makeup and tamed hair.
Still, Holmes makes the no-fuss look work—and not just because she’s a successful actor and director. The key to her ensembles is to sandwich a comfortable style (like sweats) between two formal pieces, such as a button-up and leather flats. Once mastered, the outfit is easy to replicate, but as Holmes demonstrates, hard to quit wearing.
